Are your efforts being rewarded?

Every week I meet women who are confused about the lack of money flowing into their business. They’ve been focused on creating great content, they’re building their email list, growing their followers yet their efforts are not rewarded by money flowing into their bank accounts. If this has happened to you too read on.

In our society girls have been taught to nurture those around us, to give to those less fortunate, to put others people’s needs before our own. We’ve been taught to give and give and give. As start-up business women this message changes to create more free content, give to our tribe, be consistent in social media, to post every day. When this doesn’t bring in paying clients we are told to create better free content, create a 20 page free ebook instead of a single page PDF, run a free 5 day challenge instead of a 30 minute webinar; do more, be more and give away more for free. Many women get caught in the trap of creating and giving without receiving.

But what if they key to making $ in your business isn’t only about creating and giving more. What if the missing key to creating a thriving business is being open to receiving?

How do you tell if receiving is a “thing” for you?

If a customer pays you a compliment what’s your first thought? I hear so many women say “Oh that was easy”, or “it was nothing.” They don’t acknowledge the years they put into learning and becoming an expert at their “thing”. When a customer hears “it was easy“, or” it was nothing” they think “oh she didn’t put much effort into that after all.” I know when I hear those types of comments suddenly I don’t experience the same pleasure or excitement as I did. Those comments have devalued our “thing” for our clients.

How can you open yourself to receiving?

I recently ran a group mentoring session where we worked on being open to receiving. In meditation we opened our hearts and minds to welcoming in abundance, prosperity as well as compliments. We experienced the emotions of being given to. We imagined customers booking in for our services and buying our products. We felt the excitement of seeing money build up in our bank accounts. We opened ourselves to feeling people around us wanting us to succeed and supporting us in our businesses. We felt people giving us compliments and us receiving them gracefully. We imagined our supporters telling people about our business, getting their friends to purchase from us. We felt a circle of supporting energy beaming towards us and we opened ourselves to receiving.

Silence followed as my participants absorbed all the emotions that came up for them. For some a simple tweak of their mindset was all that was needed. Many felt their energy was almost completely blocked to receiving; a complete mindset reset is needed for their business to grow.

Open your block to receiving

Adding a gratitude practice to the end of your day is a powerful first step to receiving. An evening gratitude ritual is a powerful way to remind yourself of all the receiving you’ve experienced. Some women find it easier to start by being grateful to our natural world (no strings attached) – clean are to breathe, fresh water to drink, a delicious home cooked meal. Once that feels comfortable you can progress to feeling gratitude towards people. I’m grateful for my sister pet sitting while I was away, I’m grateful for the big hug my son gave me. I’m grateful my children were quiet while I was on the phone.

By filling yourself up with gratitude you will find accepting compliments and cash easier.

How to give yourself a receiving mindset reset

Step 1 – Being Aware

Notice how you feel when someone compliments you;

  • How does your body feel?
  • Do you fidgety and uncomfortable?
  • Does your breathing change?
  • What thoughts race through your head?
  • What are the first words that come into your mind?

After receiving a few compliments you’ll become aware of how you react, what memories are triggered and the words that automatically pop out of your mouth!

Step 2 – Receiving

When someone gives you a compliment try this technique:

  • Welcome it with a smile.
  • Breathe it in, let it flow through your whole being, body and mind.
  • Experience the feeling of being appreciated and acknowledged.
  • Feel the compliment waking up the cells in your body with joy.
  • Soak up the gift of the compliment.
  • If you feel the desire to reply simple is best – Thank you, it was my pleasure, you’re welcome, anytime.

Being open and welcoming to compliments can lead to a profound change in the way you interact with your clients/customers. It opens you up to receiving. You’ll attract opportunities for energy to flow towards you instead of always flowing away from you. You’ll be open to people sending you clients. You’ll be receptive to business opportunities. Your heart and mind will be accessible to abundance and prosperity. I know from experience that allowing energy to flow to you can create a profound change in your business, your relationships and your income.
